In the last year there have been many new pod vapes launched. They’ve all been working hard to create the most flavorful possible from a pod system. Some are amazing while others are simply terrible.

Through all these recent pod vape releases, a device has remained talked about as the best pod vape to purchase’ — that of the Uwell Caliburn. The Caliburn has been available for a while now, but is still in high demand because of its high design and flavor it offers.

The Uwell Caliburn has a 520mAh battery and a capacity of 2ml pod. The pods are made with Uwell’s exclusive Pro-FOCS flavoring technology that is said to enhance flavor and create a more enjoyable draw.

Design & Build Quality

One of the main reasons people appreciate the Caliburn most is its style. It’s simple, but stylish and is pleasant to hold and use. Sizes for the Caliburn measure in at 110mm by 21mm by 12mm. It’s a slim and tall device, therefore holding on to its bottom while smoking on it is really pleasant and natural. It’s easy to put it in the pockets of your pants, or the pocket of your shirt and barely notice that it’s there.

“CALIBURN” will be printed across the side of the device “UWELL” is printed on the back. There are two lines raised on each corner of the Caliburn which run from top to the bottom. These lines are in line with the lines in the pod, which gives the Caliburn a little sleek design. This certainly makes the Caliburn appear better than look if it was just simple.

The Caliburn is constructed from aluminum-alloy and , consequently, it’s extremely light. It’s still very sturdy and long-lasting, however. Because the device is almost completely smooth, I’ve dropped it from the height of a stand a few times onto hardwood floors and concrete. Except for a few small scratches and dings, it’s still looking and working fine.

Caliburn comes in six different colors. Five of them are solid colors and one fades from pink to blue. The black paint on my review model has held up nicely apart from a few scratches and dings from dropping it. It’s not easy to scratch and the paint doesn’t rub or flake off in a flash. However, the very bottom areas of my Caliburn are splattered with paint off of it after being set on all types of different surfaces.

It is possible to use the fire/power button to smoke or draw directly onto the mouthpiece. The Caliburn features both drawn and activated button firing, so you can choose which you prefer. Its fire button well designed and needs a little pressure to activate. It doesn’t move or wiggle even a bit.

Just under the power/fire button there is an indicator with LEDs. It lights up green, blue, or red to indicate the level of the battery. The LED will flash when you draw or hit the fire button.

On either side of the device, there is an opening that is cut out for the ejuice viewing window to the pod. After the pod has been inserted, the window will be placed inside this cutout to allow you to examine the level of your ejuice without having to remove it. The window is clear therefore it’s extremely convenient and easy to peer through.

Standard Caliburn pods are attached magnetically, and then click into their place. You have to push down quite hard for it to snap into battery. After the pod has clicked into its place, it’s an exact fit that has no movement or the pod will move. It is also possible to use Caliburn Koko pods to connect with the Caliburn but these don’t snap into the battery like the Caliburn standard pods. Caliburn Koko pods are attached only by magnets. They’re still a secure fit and I’ve discovered that they remain attached as well as the standard Caliburn pods.

Pod

Caliburn pods hold up to 2ml of juice. Two identical pods come in the box that have inbuilt 1.4ohm coils. The pods can be replaced, and therefore you won’t be able to switch the coils. When the pods are burned out, you need to replace the whole pod. This is convenient for those who want a straightforward device that they fill and start using.

It is also possible to utilize Caliburn Koko pods along with the Caliburn. The pods are 1.2ohm and have the red base (the base on normal Caliburn is black).

Airflow is introduced into the pod through small airflow holes located on both sides of Caliburn. The airflow is then directed through a hole at top of pod.

The mouthpiece of the pod slopes in on both sides, and is comfortable to vape on. The mouthpiece in the pod also acts as its fill cap. It is necessary to take the cap off to get access to the fill ports however it’s difficult to pull it off. Switching from cap side to side is helpful, but it’s usually difficult to take off.

When you take the cap off you’ll find three holes. The middle hole isn’t one for filling, so don’t fill it with ejuice or you’ll inundate the coil! It is possible to fill the pod by filling one of the holes on the outside. When you fill through one hole, the second lets air escape, making filling it more straightforward.

Even without the release holes for the air, it is necessary to fill the pods slowly. Because the coil is in center of the pod the ejuice will not be evenly distributed until that you turn the point of the pod. By tilting the pod, you’ll cause the ejuice to flow to the opposite side. If you fill it too fast the ejuice will fill only the portion of the hole that you’ve chosen and leave through the hole. After you’ve finished filling, the pressure of the mouthpiece/cap fits back on the pod.

Batteries and Charging

The Caliburn is powered by a 520mAh battery. When fully charged, the Caliburn can last for quite a long time of vaping. It’s only 11W in power so it consumes a tiny amount of battery each time you draw. In the average, I’ve had approximately 3 refills per battery.

The LED underneath the power button displays the battery’s charge level. There are three colors:

Green: 100-60%
Blue: 60-30%
Red: Below 30%

It is possible to press the fire button once to check your battery’s condition or when you puff it with draw activated it will activate the LED.

Charge times are quick, even although the Caliburn makes use of micro-USB charging. It takes about 45 minutes to go from a dead completely charged. It also has pass-thru charging, which means it can be smoked while it is charging.

Performance

The Caliburn is an excellent vape. The included pods and Caliburn Koko pods provide the same draw: an airy but loose MTL draw. If you are looking for a more tight MTL draw then this might not be the device for you.

The standard 1.4ohm Caliburn pods deliver a pleasant throat hit, with a 50mg Nico salt. Smoke is mild, not too hot and extremely enjoyable. The flavor is really nice and matches the hype there. The production of vapor is higher than you’d expect for an 11W device.

Caliburn Koko pods deliver a very similar experience to the standard pods. However, because they’re 1.2ohm pods, the vapor is slightly warmer. It’s still not too hot, but is noticeably more than the standard pod. The flavor and cloud production are both excellent and lovely.

To draw very warm, make use of the Caliburn Koko pods. For only a warm draw, make use of normal pods.

The vapour production, flavor and warmth begin to drop off when the battery is dying. The Caliburn isn’t a constant output device so it’s not surprising that this happens. When the battery reaches red it’s a much weaker draw. I would tend to charge it when it got to this level.

All of them leak or caused any problems in my tests. I mostly used 50/50 nic salts but I did use an e-juice with 60 VG once. I would often take long draws and chain smoked and never had a dry hit or even close. Wicking in the pods can be really great and not a problem.

I’ve had each pod for approximately a week and through multiple refills throughout the day and they’re still solid. Pod life is definitely a strong point in this method.

Verdict

The Caliburn does have a few spots where it could be improved, however it’s generally a solid vape. If you’re after a tight MTL draw, you’ll have to consider another option. For a more loose MTL draw, you’ll be pleased by the Caliburn.

For beginners, the Caliburn is a great choice because of the ease of use, while more experienced vapers are still able to enjoy the flavor and battery life long-lasting that the Caliburn offers. If you’re looking for a nicotine salt vape the Caliburn is among the top vapes that you can buy now.

The Caliburn is well made, the pods last quite a while and the taste is great. I can easily still recommend the Caliburn, even with all of the newer choices available.
