One of the advantages having a degree in Leicester is the fact that there are plenty of options for accommodation to choose from. In particular, since beginning university, I’ve come to realize the range of factors that were considered when deciding where to stay so, If you’re thinking about a new home soon, here’s a list of points worth taking into consideration.
1. Take a look at your budget
I had a rough estimate of how much I would be happy to spend on accommodation each month, and I wanted an ideal (lower) number in mind. Knowing how much you can spend on accommodation can help in evaluating other aspects and making decisions later on. For example, if you’re happy to stay in a shared space, you might consider getting a twin room as a way to save some money or if you don’t mind walking a bit more (or getting on public transport/cycling…) to campus, then perhaps your trade-off might be staying in accommodation which is a bit further away.
2. Think about the distance
It was an important consideration because I wanted to live within walking distance of certain areas I was certain I would likely be visiting on a regular routine. Alongside determining the distance the location is from campus, take into consideration the specific location: do you want to live near certain railway lines, for instance? If you’re looking to live closer to campus or certain facilities then this is definitely an effective method of narrowing down your options of accommodation.
3. Consider the social scene
As a student in the first year I considered this a lot, and finally decided that I would like to reside in a place that was social enough my needs (not too social, but accessible to conversations and meeting new people). However others might prefer to live in halls , where everyone is likely to be much more independent. It is also important to think about the size of the roomand how the social environment is also influenced by how many students stay in that particular student accommodation Leicester.
4. Take a look at the amenities
Different kinds of accommodations offer various advantages so ranking preferred amenities is really a personal choice. If the ability to cook almost all of your meals sounds appealing, Self-catered dining halls (or room choices) are the best way to choose. However, I wanted to be able to cook occasionally but not always have to do so, picking a hall in which dinner is provided every day is ideal for me. Also, some halls might offer separate kitchens with bathrooms, or even shared kitchens between a smaller flat size…these are the main things I had in mind when choosing my lodgingbasing my decision on my previous experience or what I wanted to try out.
5. Select your preferred type of accommodation
Like I said, the benefit of studying within Leicester is that you have access to a lot of variety. There are university halls, inter-collegiate halls (useful in case you want to meet people across different universities or wish to have a clearer ‘divide’ between ‘work’ and ‘home’) or in private accommodations. Beginning your research earlier will give you time to discover the range of choices and weigh all the important factors that affect you. Hopefully, it will get you the ideal living space!
Best of luck to those thinking about or actively searching for accommodation. If your like me, and you end up with a well-thought plan of finding the ideal accommodation, but with an unorganized booking process I’m hoping that it will be a great experience!
