Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)

Harry Reid International Airport (IATA: LAS, ICAO: KLAS), also known as McCarran International Airport, is a public airport located in Paradise, Nevada, about five miles (8 km) south of downtown Las Vegas. It is the main commercial airport serving Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

LAS Airport is the ninth-busiest airport in the United States by passenger traffic and the twentieth-busiest by aircraft movements. In 2021, the airport served over 48 million passengers. LAS Airport is a focus city for Allegiant Air, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Spirit Airlines. It is also a hub for Spirit Airlines.

LAS Airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 is the older of the two terminals and handles most of the international flights. Terminal 3 is the newer terminal and handles most of the domestic flights.

History

The airport was originally built in 1929 as a small airstrip. It was named McCarran Field in 1942 after U.S. Senator Pat McCarran. The airport was expanded in the 1950s and 1960s to accommodate the growing number of passengers. In 1978, the airport was renamed McCarran International Airport.

In 2010, the airport was renamed Harry Reid International Airport in honor of U.S. Senator Harry Reid. The new name was officially adopted in 2012.

Current Status

LAS Airport is currently undergoing a major expansion project. The project includes the construction of a new terminal, a new runway, and a new parking garage. The expansion is expected to be completed in 2023.
